The Secret of Stonehenge

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, about 2.0 miles (3.2 km) west of Amesbury and 8 miles (13 km) north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of a circular setting of large standing stones set within earthworks. It is at the centre of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.

Archaeologists believe the iconic stone monument was constructed anywhere from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. But now there are new theories about it. Watch the documentary your teacher will show you and explain what you have understood in, approximately, one hundred words.

You will watch a documentary from National Geographic about the Stonehenge. Watch it carefully and write a summary of what you have watched in this blog, together with your opinion about the documentary.

  1. The video is about a sculpture called Stonehenge that it was cretaed approximately 4.500 ago, in 2500 BC. Nobody knows why is was built but there are suppositions. Some archaeologists think that this place were where the people did ceremonies, and they met every morning arround the sculpture. there weren't traces of people arround it because when they died were burned and thrown into the river. After the archaeologists discovered the stonehenge, they discoberd a thousand houses not far. It was the biggest discobery of Neolithic. Near the village it was discovered and identiacl sculpture to Stonehenge, but it was of wood and they only find the holes in the ground because it has desintegrated. these two sculptures have one meaning, the monument of stone it represents the spirit of the people because the stone it doesen't destroyed and the monument of wood has a short duration like the life of the people.

  2. It was build on 4500 b.C at the stone age.
On the 2500 b.C workers finished the Stonehenge and it had circular shape.
On a farm near there the workers found the answer of it, it is a symbolic monument and it is not only, there is an other part but made of wood.
The wood construction is for the living.
The stone construction is for the dead.
The Stonehenge is the biggest neolithic settlement on Europe.
On the summer solstice the people go to the stone construction to thank the ancestors for the life and fertility.
On the winter solstice the peolpe go to the wood construction.

  3. Dear Joan and Olga,

You've written a nice summary of the documentary we watched in class the other day. Congratulations! There are, though, some mistakes in each of your texts. Why don't you have a look at them and try to correct them? Anyway, congratulations for your writing.

  4. Parker Pearson is an archaeologist that has a new theory of the history of the Stonehenge’s. Archaeologists excavated to see what there was, and they discover the history of Stonehenge.
On 2500 b.C some people began Building the pyramids of Egypt.
People built Stonehenge in a circle and they break it one by one. The romans saw these as a compliment for Apollo.
Parker said that the circle forms part of something bigger, more important. He discovered another building of wood some meters far, and he thinks that these monuments are together to form a new religious era.
On 2005, they had founded a prehistorically village.
Parker’s theory can change our way to see prehistorically world.
